Our Commitment to Data Security

At Aurora Recycling Solutions, we understand that data security is a top priority for our clients. We are committed to ensuring that all personal and sensitive information is completely removed from electronic devices before they are recycled. Our data destruction processes adhere to the stringent DOD 5220.22-M standard, providing you with the highest level of security and peace of mind.

Understanding the DOD 5220.22-M Standard

The DOD 5220.22-M standard is a data destruction method established by the U.S. Department of Defense. It specifies a procedure for the secure erasure of data from electronic storage devices, ensuring that the information cannot be recovered. The process involves multiple overwrites of the data with specific patterns of 1s and 0s, followed by verification to ensure that all data has been completely eradicated. This rigorous process makes it nearly impossible for any data to be retrieved from the device.

Physical Destruction Methods

In addition to data erasure, we also employ various physical destruction methods to ensure that data-containing media are rendered completely unusable. These methods include:

Shredding CDs and DVDs: Optical media such as CDs and DVDs are shredded into tiny pieces, making it impossible to reconstruct and recover any data.

Degaussing: This process involves using a powerful magnetic field to disrupt the magnetic domains on hard drives, effectively erasing all data stored on them. Degaussing is particularly effective for older magnetic storage devices.

Disassembling and pulverizing HDDs: Hard disk drives (HDDs) are disassembled, and the platters are physically pulverized. This method ensures that the data stored on the platters cannot be retrieved.

Shredding Floppy Disks: Although less common today, floppy disks are also shredded to ensure that any data they contain is completely destroyed.

Shredding NAND Flash: NAND flash memory, such as that found in solid state drives is shredded to ensure that any data it contains is completely destroyed.

Why Our Methods Are the Benchmark for Safety and Security

By adhering to the DOD 5220.22-M standard for digital erasure and utilizing rigorous physical destruction methods, we ensure that all data is irretrievably destroyed. Our comprehensive approach to data security protects our clients’ privacy and prevents sensitive information from falling into the wrong hands. This commitment to security is a cornerstone of our recycling services and sets us apart in the industry.

Ensuring Comprehensive Protection

At Aurora Recycling Solutions, we go beyond standard data destruction practices to offer a holistic approach to data security. By combining the DOD 5220.22-M standard with physical destruction methods, we provide a multi-layered defense against data breaches. Our clients can trust that their information is protected by the highest industry standards, making us a leader in secure electronic recycling.
